@ Crisis: It's the other way around, Counterstrike is a mod for Half-Life ... and I do fondly remember the turtle, back in the days of good old BASIC. I liked Pascal more, tho.

Speaking of RPGs, I just recently played through "Devil May Cry" for PS2... am I wrong, or are ALL cool console-games from somewhere in Japan?? See, there's the Final Fantasy series (X.. wooohooo Tidus x Yuna!), there's Metal Gear Solid (Raiden rox... bishounen, anyone?), there's Tekken, and now, the very best game I ever played, Devil May Cry (Dante 0wnz meh)... I feel kinda embarassed NOT to live in Japan.

You want old? I remember using computers where you used a cassette tape to store data on. And thermal printers with that shiny paper. The first computer I used (as a small child) had a 2MB memory!
To be honest, if it didnt appear in an arcade, I probably never played it. I did manage to once break a local record for high scores on galaxian ^_^, IMHO, better than pac-man and space invaders.
I've still got one of the original big grey gameboys, and I still play it. There's just something cooler about crappy, low-res, primitive games.

PS, Crisis, your monitor went upside down? that's really...wierd.

Heh. Remember that VIC-20 I mentioned? It had 5KB of memory (and a casette tape drive). The first IBM-compatible I ever used had 640KB of memory. I've still got a working 486, complete with dot matrix printer, and it's still what I do most of my writing on.

Of course, none of that has anything on the stories one of my professors used to tell--he'd used an early supercomputer with 4KB of memory, and not even the sort of on-chip memory that's considered usual these days, either. Drum memory.

And I'll stop there before I wander off into the land of historical computer geekery . . .

Oh, and, Crisis--if the turtle thing is what I'm thinking of, it was called Logo, FWIW.

@ Crisis It was Xenogears. But I also want to play Xenosaga episode 1! I really want to buy all of them but they are just way TO expensive down over here -____-
Oh and I am also a bit of a feminist too because some of the girls just make me want to srangle them! I kinda stick with the males. I find it some times with the girls it takes them forever to do one thing >.< But with the male it is more like they get to the point.
Once I think about it female main characters in RPG games are getting more prominent....Hmm...I gues that could be a good and a bad thing 0_o

@ IceFoxxx Hehhe I love "Devil May Cry" and "Devil May Cry 2" And I would have to say that ALL cool console games have come from Japan ^0^
And I feel really deprived right now because Japan has everything....and by the time it comes over here it is like acient in Japan [well not literally but you guys know what I mean ]
Just like Mangas...we have none over here -___-;; we have to order all of ours and trust me even when we order them there is still a possibility it won't come >___< that is why you don't pay for it till it comes. Like for example I ordered a Manga like a yr ago and it STILL hasen't came in....and I think the guy at the comic store is sick of me because I have been there so many times

I think I can do you all one better here First comp I had was a 386 Had the whole 640k of mem, and VERY little HD space. I almost miss having it around because I always loved doing my writing in the ancient version of word perfect

^___^ I was into computers before 386es even *existed.*

Yep, that's right, boys and girls, Granny Risu-chan actually remembers both Pong on an Atari and helping her dad write sprite-animation assembly code for the Commodore 64. (That old beast may still be gathering dust in my folks' basement, come to think of it... and this was before floppy drives too; our idea of "high-tech external storage" was our cousin's cassette tape drive that you could use to maybe back up or reload programs if you were both patient and lucky.)

By the way, the 64 in Commodore 64 stood for the 64 K of memory the entire machine could hold. That's right. 64 K. As in "about 5 percent of what a standard floppy disk holds" 64 K -- as in "I've written longer text files than that" 64 K...

erk, sounds like the storm's starting up again. Going to go shut down before something electronic gets fried...

Whew...while looking for some nice screenshots of old games for my VB project (which by the way don't exist -___-), I finally decided that the best thing to do would be to download the games and then make screenshots of them myself.

That's when I found this gem of a site:

http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/

See the URL? That's exactly it! It offers 3 free downloads of oldie games per day, and if you pay $3 through paypal, you get unlimited downloads for one day. Very very nice. ^^ I've been on a downloading spree so I haven't verified if all of the games work yet, but since it's free, there's no harm in downloading one and checking it out. ^^ The game list is endless!

*waves big banner over head reading "download 'The Legend of Kyrandia 2'"

*starry-eyed nostalgia*
386!! I remember learning word perfect. We also had pong at home I seem to remember but I was too young to appreciate it - funilly enough tennis games became strangely hi-tech and cutting edge again about four years ago when people first started getting them as features on mobile phones ^^;;

I've started a bit of a collection of vintage hardware, extending to electrical goods such as very early walkmans and mobile phones. Anyone remember 8-tracks? I'm looking for them at the moment. >__0
